A winter reinterpretation of our signature Irish Brat — part blanket, part armour, and one of the most beloved shapes in The Quiet Kingdom.

Inspired by the traditional brat (pronounced brawt), a centuries-old Irish cloak worn for warmth, shelter, and even as a travelling blanket, this piece is a love letter to Ireland’s textile heritage. The brat was a trusted companion for those moving across the island .

This version is crafted in a heavyweight black-and-white herringbone Donegal tweed, fully lined with tumbled black Irish linen. The result is a piece that feels as comforting as wrapping a blanket around your shoulders, yet structured enough to hold its shape and presence. The Brat can be reversed to reveal the linen side for a moodier, more minimal look, making it two coats in one.

Its cocoon-like silhouette is secured by a delicate tie at the neck, allowing you to wrap, knot, or drape it to suit the moment. Whether you wear it over evening tailoring or throw it on for a windswept winter walk, this is a garment designed to make the ordinary feel a little enchanted — carrying heritage forward into the now.

Features:

  • Heavyweight Donegal tweed in black-and-white herringbone
  • Fully lined with tumbled black Irish linen
  • Reversible design for two distinct looks
  • Delicate tie detail at the neck for secure styling
  • Generous cocoon fit, perfect for layering
  • Designed and made in Ireland

The model is 5’8 and UK 8.

Care

At Kindred of Ireland, we take pride in offering you high-quality Donegal Tweed garments that are not only stylish but also durable. To ensure your Donegal Tweed pieces remain in excellent condition for years to come, please follow these care instructions:

1. Dry Cleaning Recommended We recommend dry cleaning your Donegal Tweed garments to maintain their texture and color. Professional dry cleaners have the expertise to handle delicate fabrics like tweed.

2. Spot Cleaning In case of minor stains or spills, gently blot the affected area with a clean, dry cloth to absorb excess liquid. Avoid rubbing, as it may damage the fabric.

3. Storage When not wearing your Donegal Tweed garments, store them in a cool, dry place. Avoid hanging them on sharp hooks, as this can cause snagging. Instead, use padded hangers or fold them neatly to prevent creases.
