Slate beetled Irish linen brings a quiet sheen to the Bow Skirt. The finish gives the cloth a crisp hand, holding the double-layered shape away from the body and catching the light along its folds.

A bow gathers into the centre front of the waistband, balanced by an elasticated section at the back. Pockets are tucked into the generous shape.

Pair it with the Inheritance Blazer in Shamrock, letting green and gold sit against the slate, or with the soft ivory Choir Practice Shirt for a gentler contrast.

Crafted from Irish beetled linen, this piece draws on one of Ireland’s oldest textile traditions. The beetling process gives the fabric its distinctive structure, smoothness and sheen, preserving a rare craft still practiced in Northern Ireland today. Care Instructions Dry clean only. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and store in a cool, dry place. Use a padded hanger or fold neatly to help maintain the shape of the garment.

Our made to order pieces have a production time of 3-4 weeks.

The cloth

Beetled linen.
Struck until it shines.

Linen, wound on a wooden beam and beaten under wooden hammers until the weave closes and a quiet sheen comes up.

It is done in Upperlands, in the last beetling mill in the world, on engines well over a century old. The sheen comes from the hammering, not from any finish.

It gives the cloth a crispness ordinary linen does not have, so it holds a shape: the puff sleeves of the Bell Ringing Dress, the double layers of the Bow Skirts. In black the sheen runs deep; in slate it is quieter.
