Irish tweed from Mourne Textiles, woven in County Down, gives The Shawl its character. The family-run mill brings three generations of skill and knowledge to its weaving. Lined in Irish linen, the shawl falls from the shoulders in a generous, poncho-like shape, with space for the texture of the cloth to show. A tie at the top holds it in place.

It draws on our Irish Brat, reworked here into a different silhouette. The drape does much of the dressing: a broad sweep of tweed over a shirt or knit, with the linen lining beneath.

Wear it over the Off Duty Joggers for a walk, or over a dress when the day calls for something more. A new way to carry a familiar Irish tradition.

This Kindred of Ireland piece is crafted from Irish tweed, a fabric valued for its depth, durability and enduring character. To preserve its texture, colour and structure, we recommend dry cleaning only.

Care Instructions: Dry clean only. If needed, gently blot minor spills with a clean, dry cloth, taking care not to rub the fabric. Store in a cool, dry place and use a padded hanger or fold neatly when not in use.

Our made to order pieces have a production time of 3-4 weeks.

Ready to ship items will be shipped within 1-2 working days.

Delivery is £6, and free on orders over £250.

Mourne Textiles was founded in Rostrevor, County Down, in 1954 by Gerd Hay-Edie, a Norwegian weaver who had made the Mournes her home. Her daughter Karen, a master weaver, carried it on, and today her grandson Mario runs the mill: three generations at the same craft. Some of the looms have been in the workshop for more than fifty years.

Here, a tweed with a texture you can feel before you touch it, set against the smooth shine of black beetled linen. Two Irish cloths, side by side.
