A modern take on one of Ireland’s oldest garments — this is our short Irish Brat, reimagined for AW25 in soft Donegal tweed and fully lined with Irish linen.
The brat (pronounced brawt) was a traditional cloak worn across early Ireland, used for warmth, shelter, and even as a blanket on long journeys. We’ve brought that history forward in a shorter, more versatile silhouette — designed to sit just above the hip for easy layering.
Fully reversible, with a delicate linen tie at the neck, this piece offers endless styling options: wear it draped, knotted, or left open for an easy, cocoon-like effect. The weight of the Donegal tweed makes it feel like wrapping yourself in a blanket, while the crisp linen lining keeps it light and breathable.
This is a piece made for modern life — rooted in Ireland’s storytelling past but reworked to be worn every day, from misty walks to city cafés.
Features:
- Made from heritage Donegal tweed, fully lined with Irish linen
- Reversible design for multiple styling options
- Linen tie closure at the neck
- Shorter length for easy layering
- Designed and made in Ireland
The model is 5’8 and a UK 8

Care
Care
At Kindred of Ireland, we take pride in offering you high-quality Donegal Tweed garments that are not only stylish but also durable. To ensure your Donegal Tweed pieces remain in excellent condition for years to come, please follow these care instructions:
1. Dry Cleaning Recommended We recommend dry cleaning your Donegal Tweed garments to maintain their texture and color. Professional dry cleaners have the expertise to handle delicate fabrics like tweed.
2. Spot Cleaning In case of minor stains or spills, gently blot the affected area with a clean, dry cloth to absorb excess liquid. Avoid rubbing, as it may damage the fabric.
3. Storage When not wearing your Donegal Tweed garments, store them in a cool, dry place. Avoid hanging them on sharp hooks, as this can cause snagging. Instead, use padded hangers or fold them neatly to prevent creases.
