Beetling is an age-old process, unique to this island, where linen is pounded for hours with wooden blocks to create a subtle sheen and a crisp, structured handfeel. Once a hallmark of Irish linen production, only one mill in Ireland still performs this craft.
Cadhla’s reversible design makes her endlessly versatile. This Kindred of Ireland piece is crafted from Irish Beetled linen, a fabric steeped in centuries-old tradition dating back to the 1700s. The labor-intensive beetling process, performed in Co. Derry by the last beetlers in the world, involves dampening and pounding the linen with wooden blocks for hours.
