Beetling is an age-old process, unique to this island, where linen is pounded for hours with wooden blocks to create a subtle sheen and a crisp, structured handfeel. Once a hallmark of Irish linen production, only one mill in Ireland still performs this craft.
Cadhla’s reversible design makes her endlessly versatile. Wear her buttoned to the front for a classic shirt look, or turn her around for a clean, elevated silhouette that transitions beautifully into evening. The beetled linen lends an architectural quality, holding its shape while softening beautifully over time. The linen also has a light sheen, adding an almost leather like quality to the shirt.

This Kindred of Ireland piece is crafted from Irish Beetled linen, a fabric steeped in centuries-old tradition dating back to the 1700s. The labor-intensive beetling process, performed in Co. Derry by the last beetlers in the world, involves dampening and pounding the linen with wooden blocks for hours. This unique method imparts a special character to each garment, preserving a story of ancient craft and tradition unique to Ireland.
