Frequently Asked Questions
Before you Order
Most of our pieces are made to order, or as we like to think of it, made when chosen. Each garment is cut and sewn only once your order is placed, by our team of local seamstresses here in Ireland.
We work this way intentionally. It allows us to make thoughtfully, support local craftsmanship, and avoid unnecessary overproduction. At certain times of year, we also create small batches of selected pieces. These are made in limited quantities and, once sold, will not be restocked.
Ready to ship pieces are garments we already have in our Belfast studio and that are available for immediate dispatch. You can find these in our Ready to Ship section online, which we keep updated regularly.
These pieces are usually dispatched within 2 working days.
Our made to order pieces usually take 2–4 weeks to complete. Ready to ship pieces are usually dispatched within 2 working days.
For bridal, please allow 6–8 weeks.
If you need something sooner, we can often expedite pieces where possible. You can leave a note at checkout with the date you need your order by, or get in touch with us through our website chat and we will do our best to help.
Each product page includes measurements and sizing guidance to help you choose well. Many of our pieces are offered in S/M and M/L, while some styles come in a broader size range and others are designed as one size.
This reflects our approach to dressing: ease, versatility, and thoughtful silhouettes that can work beautifully across different body shapes.
If you are between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up. If you prefer a more oversized fit, you may also wish to size up.
We offer complimentary hem and sleeve length adjustments on made to order pieces before your order is placed. You can request these by leaving a note at checkout or by contacting our team before ordering.
Ready to ship pieces have already been sewn, so any alterations to these would be chargeable.
Please note that pieces adjusted to your requested measurements are considered bespoke and are non-returnable.

Product & Craftsmanship
Irish linen is one of Ireland’s great textile traditions, known for its strength, breathability, and understated beauty. Woven from flax, it is a natural fabric that feels cool and light against the skin, softens beautifully with wear, and is made to last.
At Kindred, we value Irish linen not only for its beauty, but for what it represents: a heritage of craftsmanship, local industry, and a slower, more thoughtful way of making. Your own site also positions linen as a lower-water, lower-waste natural fibre compared with cotton, and notes that your fabric is sourced locally in Ireland.
Beetled linen is a distinctive Irish fabric finished using an ancient process known as beetling, where the linen is dampened and repeatedly beaten with wooden blocks for hours. This gives the fabric its characteristic structure, smoothness, and subtle sheen.
It is one of the textile traditions that makes Irish linen so special, and one we are proud to help preserve through our collections. Your site describes this process as being carried out in Co. Derry by the last beetlers in the world.
Donegal tweed is one of Ireland’s most storied fabrics, traditionally woven in County Donegal and known for its rich texture, character, and flecked yarns. It is a fabric with depth and substance — durable, timeless, and closely tied to the landscape and craft traditions of Ireland.
We use Donegal tweed because it brings warmth, structure, and heritage to a garment in a way few fabrics can. It is both practical and beautiful, and designed to be worn for many years.
Care instructions can vary depending on the fabric and construction of the garment, so we always recommend referring first to the care label inside your piece and the product page online.
As a general guide:
- Irish linen can usually be washed separately on a cold wash and left to air dry. One of the things we love most about linen is that it softens and becomes even more beautiful with age and wear, developing character over time.
- Donegal tweed pieces are best dry cleaned to preserve their texture, structure and colour.
- Beetled linen pieces are generally recommended for dry clean only, due to the nature of their finish and sheen. We also advise avoiding prolonged direct sunlight where possible.
In Store
Yes — we have a physical store in Belfast at 52 Hill Street, Belfast, open Monday to Saturday.

Yes — we hold some stock across much of our collection in our Belfast store, while other pieces remain made to order.
Bridal
All of our bridal pieces are handmade to order by our expert bridal seamstresses. Once your order is placed, your piece is made especially for you.
If you are looking for something more individual, we also offer a bespoke bridal service tailored to your vision.
Our standard bridal lead time is 6–8 weeks. We can also offer a rush service for an additional fee. This is consistent with your current bridal page.
For bespoke bridal, we recommend allowing a minimum of 6 months from consultation to completion.
Yes — we offer bridal appointments at our Belfast studio for try-ons and consultations. We do not carry samples in every size across the full collection, so it is helpful to let us know which pieces you would like to try ahead of your appointment.
For bespoke bridal, we also offer an initial bespoke appointment. Your current bridal FAQs state that this appointment costs £125, which is deducted from the final cost of your dress if you proceed.
Partnership with Flourish NI
We collaborate with Flourish NI to create special pieces, with a portion of the proceeds supporting anti-trafficking initiatives.
The profits that we donate to Flourish NI go specifically to support their 'Sew & Skill' programme. You can read more here.
While we give 10% of our profits to Flourish, we have a much deeper connection with them. We collaborate with their Sew & Skill team to create 'Kindred X Flourish' products. We have a dream that one day these clients will work in-house for Kindred.
